Linux.conf.au 2001
First things first: this is not the main source of information for this conference: please see linux.org.au where you can get the real story. These pages are for PERTH people who want to go. We are merely members of the UCC/PLUG who want to go, and thought we would organise a group.
If you want to come with us, then this is what we are doing. You are more than welcome to organise all of this yourself, but we are hoping to get transport/accomodation/conference paid in one hit, and possibly a bit cheaper. A 'no brainer', but we make no promises.
We are proposing the following:
- Flying there as a group, since its a very long way by road
- Accommodation near the UQ venue: either hotels or uni accomodation. If in a hotel, I can see two ways: cram and stuff 'em in, or perhaps a room each. Perhaps a choice between the two. You can even choose to stay in a room with someone specific if you have a preference. Don't know about the prices yet.

The conference dates are: Wed Feb 6 - Sat Jan 9. We'll probably depart Perth Sat 2nd, and return Sun 10th, if flying. There is a small Debian Conference on the Monday and Tuesday, to round out the week.
You can bring a partner if you wish, even if that partner is not going to attend the conference. We can include him/her in transport and accomodation costs.
We also need to know which conference ticket you want: Student, Individual, or Corporate. Corporate is if your company is sending you and can afford it.
All money exchanges are to be by CHEQUE made payable to the organisations we are dealing with. Nothing will be cash, nothing will be made out to any of the organisers of the UCC/PLUG trip group. We say a bank cheque so you are assured that we personally cannot take your money. If you don't have a cheque book, get a BANK DRAFT (a cheque made out by the bank: you will have to personally visit your back to get this).
So, this should all sound pretty fair. No one is getting there for free. Any discounts will be split between the group. Hence, we need to confirm and close this off well before the conference (we're aiming for the end of November). Any cancellations probably mean you will lose your money, unless you are VERY LUCKY and the organisations we are booking with will give you back some percentage. OK? Don't even think about whinging if you decide not to get on the plane and come an hour before it takes off.
So, let's wrap this up.
- Do you want to come? See the linux.org.au site and figure that one out.
- Do you want a room by yourself, a room with a specific other person (or people), or share with any one/any number of people in a large dorm?
- What conference ticket do you want?
Email your choices now to: linuxconf@ucc.gu.uwa.edu.au. I will publish your name (but not email), and your choices here. Drivers of cars get to choose who comes with them. All others will be reverting to flying (unless you tell me you will only go by car).
This will be conducted in a number or phases. The first phase you send me in your details until the end of Phase 1 (November 23rd). We then work out scheduling and costs of cars and accomodation. We pester airlines for discounts. We get a final price. Phase two, I let you know the price for flights, accomodation, conference, and who to make THREE cheques out to. These cheques are to be given over to us, and then we send them all off. Tickets come back, and we distribute them.
