Linux.conf.au 2003: Organisation

I am proposing that we split people into several teams, with at least two people in each team, which will do the foot work and make recommendations to the rest of the group.

This requires a head group to oversee this, and this also has to be made up of at least two but no more than three people as a lead; we must cater for the fact that people leave over the course of a year, yet we do not want a single president/point of failure situation; indeed, the organisation group is going to be large, but needs direction.

Under some central organiser, I propose the following sub-committees:

Any person from any recognised usergroup who is recognised by a number of people on the existing groups is invited to partitipate. Anyone may pariticipate in as many parts of the organisation as they wish -- but I urge you to partake in one to start with and see how much you can achieve there. There will be a lot of work involed in contacting people.

In any subcommittee, there shall be two people who are to chair that sub-committee. The entire group of people in the sub-committee must debate and assist in the completion of duties. The two chairs of the sub-committee are charged with preparing a weekly summary from the subcommittee to be presented to the rest of the group to explain the weeks debates and progress -- this need only be two to four paragraphs. Should any sub-committee go quiet for more than two weeks, a new pair of chairs are to be elected, unless staisfactory evidence is provided to the rest of the organisation.

By establishing these subcommittees, those who can help in a specific area can reach their objectives, and then present a resolution (along with supporting evidence) to the entire organising body.

There will be a monthly meeting, to start with, as part of the PLUG meetings, where by all reports from all sub-committees are presented in person for Questions and Answer sessions in person. These meetings will become more frequent closer to the date of the conference.
